Operation Rhino
On May 25, 1999, Johny's battalion was tasked with capturing Point 4750, a strategically important peak on the Siachen Glacier. Johny led his platoon in a daring assault, encountering heavy resistance from the Pakistani forces.
Unwavering Bravery
Despite being injured in the initial assault, Johny refused to retreat. He continued to lead his men, displaying unwavering bravery and tactical brilliance. Under his command, the platoon fought relentlessly, clearing the enemy from the peak.
Param Vir Chakra: The Highest Honor
For his extraordinary courage and leadership, Sahjan Johny was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military honor. The citation for the award reads: "Captain Sahjan Johny, an officer of exceptional courage and leadership, fell while leading his platoon in an audacious attack on Point 4750. In the face of intense enemy fire, he directed his men with great skill and determination, and despite being injured, he refused to be evacuated."
